Carolyn Barnett Carolyn has been knitting since she was seven, been an artisan for 29 years, 27 of which have been on the knitting machine. Her training includes her mother, primary school in England, one year of Fashion Design and Technique at college and many seminars and self exploration over the years. "I only work with natural fibres like Wool and Cotton. I adore wool. I have worked with Cashmere and Silk and Viscose ribbon. I learned to knit at 7 years of age and designed my dolls' clothes at 11. I didn't look around for something to do - it was always there. I just expanded upon it to try and earn my living at something I love. I love the molding, feel, smell, hand of fibre, the molding to the human form. The colour possibilities, shapes and uses. I love the rhythm of hand knitting, I fell into machine knitting and am now love to design machine knits." Carolyn also works in Polymer Clay creating the buttons and pin closures and embellishments for her knitwear. "My process is multifaceted, from the thought and idea processes to putting the design in my head into a tangible pattern for me to follow. Deciding on the colours, which for wearables need to complement the human form and colouring, making each piece, assembling them and then designing and making buttons to finish each garment".
