Iris Bishop from the UK really impresses us with her knitting expertise. Iris' latest book is "Making Waves" which has several slip stitch tunics and a jacket in beautiful lightweight fabrics. The slip stitch technique creates reversible fabrics with fabulous look and feel. Her "Kaleidoscope Project" has a number of fantastic shortrowed shawl patterns which really illustrate her use of colour. The shawls are in several different styles which makes it hard to decide which to knit first. "Helix Sweater" is an incredible woven shortrowed tunic which is sideways knit with wonderful texture. This pattern is ideal for those balls of exotic hand-knitting yarns you may have picked up. "Textured Woven Jacket" has to be seen to be believed! It is knit sideways with great vertical lines of 3-D texture. These books are suitable for punchcard and electronic machines and are $22.95 each. Iris' other books are also available, for more information please email Pat.
Ann Brown of Posh Frocks in the UK has quite a number of wonderful pattern books available for both Japanese and Passap knitters. Her designer styles are simple to knit and finish. "Just 4 Frills" is a jacket with interesting borders and a great ruffled band. "Yeomans Play and Pellonia" is a chunky ribber project that's very stylish. "Book 72" is a fabulous ribbed jacket with a collar that is beautifully finished with crystals. These three new patterns are $11.95 each. For Passap owners, a 'must have book' is from Michael Becker of Distinctive Knits called "Be Your Own Passap Paramedic". Mike thoroughly covers repairs, preventive maintenance, bed, lock, peripheral and accessory maintenance, deep cleaning and how to reassemble the machine. This 69-page book is full of close-up pictures to help you follow the procedures and costs $48.95.
Cardiknits is pleased to bring you the Foss Latch Tool. This tool in three gauges is perfect for knitters with carpel tunnel or arthritic hands. The wooden handle is very lightweight but is considerably larger and easier to use than the latch tools which came with your machines. The longer handle and shank also make it easier to work a decorative crochet cast-on behind your knitting. A knitting tip: using a latch tool which is one gauge larger than the machine will make a nicer crochet cast-on, especially when using multiple strands of yarn. The picture above shows you the difference in the size of the handles of the Foss Latch Tools and the type that comes with most knitting machines. The standard gauge latch tool is $5.00, the mid-gauge is $5.25 and the bulky gauge is $5.50. Applicable taxes and mailing costs will be added. |
